Where Strategy Meets Philanthropy

Our Capabilities

Strategy Consulting

A group of people sitting around a large conference table, engaged in a meeting or discussion, with papers, notebooks, and drinks in front of them.

Teapot Mountain Advisory is a fundraising and capital formation strategy firm.  We work with clients who conduct their own solicitations through staff and volunteer leaders.

Fundraising Programs

A group of people, including both men and women, are seated at a long conference table in a wood-paneled room with large windows, participating in a formal meeting or discussion.

Using data to shape fundraising strategies and an increased organizational commitment to success in fundraising, can rapidly improve your development program.

Fundraising Counsel and Campaign Strategy

Teapot Mountain Advisory advises the boards and chief executives of cultural institutions, presidential libraries, universities and civic organizations on major-gift strategy, campaign planning and feasibility studies. Current and recent clients include the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, the Mississippi State University Foundation on behalf of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, and the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation. At any given time, the firm is advising on campaigns with combined goals of $250 million to $500 million.

Rhett Wilson founded the firm in 2019. From 2016 to 2025 he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer of the White House Historical Association, where he built the Association's first professional fundraising program. Over those years the annual donor base grew from 103 to more than 16,000, and he led the Association's 18-month, $85.5 million campaign for The People's House: A White House Experience, which opened steps from the White House in 2024. Earlier in his career he led development for the business schools at Johns Hopkins University and George Mason University.

We work with organizations whose own staff and volunteer leaders make the solicitations. Our part is the thinking behind the ask: whether a campaign is ready, how large it can responsibly be, which gifts need to come first, and how to prepare a board to lead it.

Rhett also chairs the Innovations in Philanthropy Summit, an invitation-only gathering of nonprofit chief executives, chief development officers and philanthropists, meeting in Charleston, South Carolina, in October 2026 and in Palm Springs, California, in February 2027.

Offices in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and Scottsdale.
